Overcoming Dental Fear 7 – Implant Dentistry

How To Overcome Fear Of The DentistSome people insist on wearing dentures because they think other alternatives, such as implants, are too expensive.

These adhesives are only necessary because so many use poorly fitting dentures that have only a 30% chewing efficiency — compared to 90% that natural teeth offer. While nothing compares to your natural teeth, implants deliver 70% chewing efficiency, as well as maintain jaw bone integrity to prevent facial atrophy. It’s common for people to let their dental fears and anxieties prevent proper dental care. Many misconceptions or sayings like “man, that was like getting a root canal” create a fearsome image of what going to the dentist is like. From Dr. Bonnick’s book, “How To Overcome Fear Of The Dentist”:

In adult life, the mantra is “if it’s a front tooth, save it; if it’s a back tooth, pull it.” [These] beliefs lead to extremely bad results for patients and increase the cost for replacing teeth in the proper position. Continue reading “Overcoming Dental Fear: Controlling Fears and Costs” »
