Dental Student

Thank you so much for your input on this article. You are right, Listerine is ADA approved. We also highly recommend it here in our office. You provide some great information about Listerine zero that may not be obvious to patients or people purchasing it in the super market.

Thank you and keep reading! We love feed back!

It's worth noting that alcohol is just the solvent in all listerines, it's not the active ingredient. Listerine recieved it's efficacy, and ADA seal, due to the essential oils (4 of them, notably thymol) that disrupt membranes of bacteria and some viruses. It also contains Sodium Lauryl sulfate, a common detergent/surfactant, which largely functions in the same manner, but also helps to debride and remove loose debris or plaque (it somewhat makes plaque water soluble).

Listerine zero lacks any of the 4 essential oils, but does contain SLS. Therefore, it's trivially as effective. If anything, it's purely a rinse, and has no real antiseptic potential. Furthermore, it could be washing away the useful fluoride from your toothpaste, so it might even be better to not use it at all if you plan to use after brushing. If you use Listerine Zero, I would suggest it as an occasional mouth refresher or pre-brush rinse.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment. We do accept BCBS benefits but in most cases cosmetic dentistry is not covered. We offer Care Credit as our outside financing company. They offer interest free financing for up to 18 months. For more information on Care Credit please visit www.Carecredit.com. Also we do our best to do cosmetic treatments at a comfortable pace for the patient. We do this to help keep costs affordable and help the healing time if any is required for the cosmetic treatment being done.
Before we worry about how we are going to pay for it, it is best to know the cost. To get a good idea of the fees associated with the cosmetic treatment you are seeking it is best for you to visit our office for a consultation. We can let you know how else we may be able to help you on your appointment.
We look forward to seeing you soon!!
