5 Ways to Save Your Teeth and Money!

Dental care can be expensive, and can cause many to shy away from going to the dentist. It adds to the anxiety of the pending treatment. There are a few things we can do to decrease the cost of our dental care and our anxiety about our treatment.

Best yet, you won’t have to fly over seas for them!

Although having dental work done in a foreign country can be cheaper than here in the states, one has to add in the cost of getting there and staying there for the work into the cost of the work itself.

Prevention

For starters, as Dr. Bonnick discusses in his book How to Overcome Dental Fear: A Patient’s Guide to Understanding Dentistry, prevention is key. By prevention we mean at-home daily care. Brushing and flossing within 20 minutes after each meal is recommended to prevent bacteria build up on and between the teeth. If you snack between meals it is recommended that you swish water in the mouth within 20 minutes of the snack to remove food debris. These simple steps can help you save money on your dental care because the help to prevent major dental issues.

Regular Check Ups

Another way to save some money when it comes to your dental health is regular care visits. Your visits may vary in time span from 3 month intervals to 6 month intervals—depending on your life stage and periodontal status. It is important to see the dentist as they recommend utilizing early detection of dental cavities or disease that can affect your heart and lung health. Like with cancer, early detection is the key to healing and care.

With early detection of dental problems comes care of the problems found. The sooner the dentist can care for the problem the less expensive it is to fix. In other words when a problem is detected, the longer you wait to fix it the bigger the problem becomes.

As with most things when a problem is allowed to grow it is more expensive to fix. So we want to save you money by taking care of these problems in a timely manner and restore your mouth to health.

Insurance

Dental insurance is a great way to save money on your dental care. Unlike medical insurance, dental insurance acts more like a discount card, or a coupon on dental care. When choosing a dental insurance company to work with, be sure you read the fine print. Most do not cover implants or cosmetic dentistry. In our office we get detailed information on how your insurance pays, and we let you know before any work is done.

Examine The Treatment Options

The last way to save money on your dental care is to know your options. In most cases there are three treatment options to care for the dental situation you are experiencing. Talk to your dentist about these options before deciding on treatment. Select the best treatment option for your health and your wallet. Remember the dentist is here to help you; we want to preserve your dental health, as a way to help preserve your heart and lung health. We care about you and the quality of life that you lead.

Dentures are not the answer, and often lead to more problems than they fix.
