Porcelain veneers are useful for covering up cracks in teeth, worn enamel or uneven teeth. Basically, they are shells made out of a ceramic material that go over existing teeth. Veneers are not used to replace teeth; they are simply used to improve the appearance of teeth that are already there.

Dental crowns are used to salvage severely damaged teeth. When dentists install a dental crown, they make a mold of the existing tooth and create a custom cap to go over it. That cap is used to hold the tooth together and create the appearance of a normal tooth.

Dental bridges are useful for replacing several missing teeth in a row. When dental bridges are installed, crowns are placed on existing teeth on either side of the missing teeth to stabilize the bridge.
